The Worst Game I’ve ever seen!

So Friday 18th April 2025 is a day that will live long in the memory… MK Dons v Newport County wins the award (so far), in my 37 1/2 years on this earth, for the worst game I’ve ever seen.

I apologise if any MK Dons or Newport County fans take offence to this, but apart from MK hitting the post with 20 minutes left and Connor Lemonhaigh-Evans marauding up and down the wing (deservedly named Man of the Match for the hosts)… nothing happened 🤷‍♂️

It was a debate… Hungerford v Wimborne or Farnborough v Bath City, so we went to MK. Figure that one out?!?!

To be honest, I was weather watching (I do this and get wrapped up in it sometimes) so I was trying to pick a ground that would be dry. I searched on Futbology for what was within 150km (other football apps are available too 😂) and MK popped up. Checked their website and tickets were only £10, bargain for League Two football 👌

Tickets bought and downloaded into my E-Wallet (what a world we live in now!) and off we went 🚙

It wasn’t a great drive up, diverted off the A34 between Wantage and Oxford but got into MK around 1345 after leaving home at 1115.

The ground is easy to find, can’t miss it really! The biggest stadium Miss has visited so far…

It is in a huge complex with bars, restaurants, shops, cinema, so there is loads of parking and even better, it was free!

We walked around the ground and visited the club shop, Miss found a ball and Daddy couldn’t say no! 🤦‍♂️ £3 though - amazing sale in the club shop by the way, home shirts for £10!

We walked around and made our way to our turnstiles. Getting in was very easy and the concourse is all open plan so you can walk all the way round. There were lots of food options - Miss and I shared a Chicken Tikka Massala (yes a curry at football - gone are the days of a pie and a pint!) They even had Papa John’s, barista made coffee, you name it!

We got to our seats 10 minutes before kick-off and to be fair, the seats are huge, padded, ample leg room and great views.

The less said about the game, the better. Turns out MK have some decent names amongst their squad - including striker Scott Hogan and former Baggies youngster, Jonathan Leko. Paul Warne was in charge for the first time and based on that display, there’s a lot of work to do and the league table doesn’t lie 😬

MK Dons get a lot of stick after the controversial re-location of Wimbledon. But the venue is exceptional and the fans try to get behind the team, much better atmosphere than the last time I visited with the Cherries (Darren Anderton scored the only goal in a 1-0 win in the Football League Trophy, 7th October 2008 🍒)

There was baby changing facilities within the ground which is a massive plus, ample free parking, great views and affordable tickets, lots of positives.

Shame it was a terrible game of football 🤦‍♂️ let’s see what effect Paul Warne has moving forward for MK.

Miss had a great time, in a virtually empty corner of the ground, she roamed around, ran up and down, played with her new ball and waved at the mascots. Happy days!

A 50th different ground and the biggest yet. 3rd out of the 92 complete ✅
