We made a decision to visit some different stadiums to broaden Miss’ back catalogue of grounds, so this week we made the relatively short journey down to Fawcetts Field to watch a local clash between New Milton Town and Hamworthy United, 1st v 5th in Wessex Division One.

An old friend of mine, Matt Maybury, is the First Team Manager at New Milton, and has done a great job this season getting them to the top of the table. Matt very kindly put our names on the gate knowing we were coming!

We set off and got to Fawcetts Field within about 45 minutes. There is lots of parking outside the ground, but it was just as New Milton’s Development side were also playing there on the outside pitches against Ventnor from Isle-of-Wight.

We managed to get parked and came in through the turnstile. A very nice clubhouse at Fawcetts Field with excellent facilities, printed programmes and a good sized stand. There was even a chair by the bench for Bing & Flop!

There was a well sized toilet block next to the stand. Sadly no baby changing facilities, but that said, there was a very large disabled toilet so ample room for the half time nappy change.

On the pitch, New Milton were top before the game and top after the game, winning 2-0 in front a very respectable crowd of over 140, a great turn out for Wessex Division One.

Good banter between the benches and even the referee was a former work colleague, small world 🌍

New Milton played some decent football and looked a constant threat going forward, good to see former Winchester City Goalkeeper, Brad Snelling, playing up front. His cheeky flick in the first-half almost got him a goal, his goal came in the second-half though ⚽️🥅

Miss roamed around on the hard standing and had a kick about with the grass spaces by the sides and behind the goal and she was saying hello to everyone she encountered, lots of lovely people at Fawcetts Field that said hello 👋

All in all, an enjoyable afternoon at good facilities with some good football on display. Great to see Matt as always and I’d be surprised if we didn’t see them in the Wessex Premier Division next season.

I’m sure we’ll see him and New Milton on the road again before the season is out…
