We enjoy a Bank Holiday double-header, and the August Bank Holiday was no exception. First up, as it was on the way to the ‘main event’, we dropped in to Alton v Badshot Lea, which turned out to be a thrilling game, finishing 3-3.

Miss loves the bar at Alton where she can have her juice and “Sprinkles” (Pringles to the rest of us!)

After we’d visited the bar and the Baby Changing Facilites (👏👏👏), we walked round to the far side of the ground and sat on the terracing in the shade out of the boiling sunshine ☀️

Six goals later, we were back on the road on our way up to Woking to see the National League clash between The Cards and York City.

I’d been to Woking before, but a long time ago, but it was another new one for Miss!

We parked in the town centre and walked down to the ground, with a 2-year-old, that was a looooong walk. 4000 steps later, we grabbed an ice cream 🍦 at the cafe in the park and then carried on the last bit of the walk to the ground. It is on the edge of Woking Park, a lovely area and worth a visit with a big park, sandpit etc… next time we’ll stop there on the way/way back time permitting.

I bought the tickets online in the morning so our QR codes were scanned at the turnstile and in we went. It is a slightly peculiar entrance as we were sitting behind the goal but walked around the back of the original main stand, passing Woking Manager, Neal Ardley, on the way, who said hello to Miss. We then popped in to the club shop (portakabin but did the job) and grabbed a cheeseburger in the Fan Zone behind the stand. We went back to our seats in the front row, great view of the pitch.

Miss was fortunate enough to meet Cherry Bear at Dean Court on Saturday and today she met Woking’s mascot too 👋

The mascot was really engaging and spent a good several minutes with Miss before saying hello to the other children.

The game was decent, finishing 1-1 with both goals at our end. Credit to over 500 York fans travelling south on a Bank Holiday 👏 it was hard for them to generate noise in an open terrace, but you could certainly hear them when they scored! ⚽️

Miss enjoyed having a bit of space to roam - and she loved being so close to the action! And at half-time, we could do a nappy change too 🧷

We will be back but will park in Woking Park next time rather than in town - the walk was nice just hot and long!
