Why does it always rain on… a Saturday

Three Saturday’s back into pre-season and a third Saturday of rain, plus a third Saturday of football for Miss and I.

We ventured down the ‘Waterside’ to see Wessex Premier League side, Hythe & Dibden, host Petersfield Town.

There were some light showers on the way to the game (the day after blazing 30 degree heat). But when we got there fortunately the rain subsided. We popped into Hythe town centre first to grab some lunch - a sausage roll each from the local bakers, before taking a wonder down at the pier.

We arrived at Clayfields and spotted some fellow Cherries fans (Phil and his family) who also follow Winchester City. Nice to also catch-up with the Cherrett’s and good to see Jamie Cotton in the coaching set-up for the hosts.

Entry was £5 for both of us - much more reasonably priced than a very pricey trip to Melksham the week prior (Melksham are only one league above H&D!) Suffice to say the pushchair didn’t fit through the turnstiles, but we went in through the adjacent gate.

An excellent clubhouse is situated in the corner of the ground and there is also a burger van inside the ground, which Miss was fascinated by…

Robbie and Dave have been on the committee at Hythe and Dibden for a number of years and are always pleasant and chatty, and everyone we encountered was lovely.

We didn’t go in the clubhouse so can’t comment on baby changing facilities this time, but we did a bum change in the car before, ample parking at the ground.

As for the game, Petersfield played well and won 2-0 and in all fairness, could have won by a larger margin.

Miss was fascinated roaming around on the ramp to the hospitality cabin… and she made herself at home sat on the steps outside the burger van (blocking access for the volunteer serving - sorry!) He was very good humoured though and knocked when he needed to get out the van so Miss moved to let him out 😂

The plan was to go to another game afterwards, but rain stopped play and then we had a family BBQ.

Next weeks’ game has already been chosen - with a trip to the New Forest our destination of choice.

Thank-you for reading and thank-you to Wintax Cars for sponsoring!
